Fed: Renewable energy target too far off, says wind group

CANBERRA, Feb 26 AAP - Environment Minister David Kemp's increased renewable energy
target for Australia could be met much earlier than the 2020 deadline, the Australian
Wind Energy Association (AusWEA) said today.

The government's Mandatory Renewable Energy Target (MRET) began in April 2001 and requires
the sourcing of 9,500 gigawatt hours of extra renewable electricity a year by 2010.

That is enough power to meet the residential electricity needs of four million people.
