BLACK MARTYR EVERS' REMAINS STUDIED FOR MURDER CLUES.(Main)

The remains of civil rights leader Medgar Evers - killed by a sniper in Mississippi 28 years ago - have been brought to the Albany Medical Center Hospital morgue for a second autopsy by the New York State Police Forensic Sciences Unit.

The new post-mortem examination comes less than a year after authorities in Hinds County, Mississippi, reopened the Evers murder case amid charges of evidence and jury tampering.

The Evers killing added fuel to the nation's civil rights movement and helped prod political leaders in Washington to move against discrimination and hate crimes against blacks in the deep South.
