Qld: Cancer Fund calls for car smoking ban
The Queensland Cancer Fund has used new research to call for parents to be banned from
smoking in their cars.
Research by the QCF shows 80 per cent of Queenslanders support moves to make it illegal
to smoke .. when carrying passengers under the age of 18.
The Fund's CATHERINE MAHONY says children exposed to smoke in a car are more susceptible
to cancer .. sudden infant death syndrome .. and lung and respiratory problems.
Health Minister STEPHEN ROBERTSON says there'll be a review of Queensland's smoking
laws later this year.
The Queensland Police Union supports the ban .. but has some concerns about how it
can be enforced.
